McQueen HS won the Boy and Girls Division of 2013 Nevada NIAA North Region Track and Field Championships.  

The event was held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Damonte Ranch - the premiere HS track facility in the North and the site of State Championships in 2012 and years prior.

Next time Damonte Ranch needs to refurbish their track, they seriously need to change the color from black to some shade of red.  No recent "high" profile track venue are being held at a facility with black color track.  

Simple statistics show this.  Not exactly scientific .. but take a look at all the YouTube clips out there for other States HS Track & Field Championships.

Dark color tracks doesn't show case the athletes through photographs very well.  But then again.. marketing people, product placement people think about this in advance.

Why?.. because when the event is over, the only rememerence of the event is via videos and still photos.. and if the event doesn't preserve well through history.. it is easily forgotten.  

Carson HS has a very nice facility.  Probably Douglas HS as well.  McQueen HS Track should be sold to The North Face to test their extreme condition outdoor garments and equipments.  No wind tunnel laboratory need. Just location location location

Back on point.. this picture would not have happened if it not for the McQueen Girls 3200m run where the girls captured a surprising 1-2-3 sweep earing the score of 10- 8 - 6 which put McQueen on the top of the team points of 111 to 109 of Damonte Ranch.  

Of course, the local paper RGJ couldn't have picked up on this dramatic turn of events even with their best political, investigative, sports reporter, etc  

Typically, the freelance reporters for RGJ writing restaurant / movie reviews have more grit and insight.  

Going into the event, McQueen had the #1 runner but their 2 and 3 runners were expected to do well, but up against other runners with huge past resumes as

1) Megan Wood - Damonte Ranch consistent top 7 finisher in XC state meets and top finisher in 1600m and 3200m (and holder of martial art black belt - yikes!)  I make sure my camera never gets near her personal space!  

2) Sara Hanneman - Galena 2012 Nevada NIAA North Region XC Champion.

3) Alex Drozdoff - Carson 2010? Nevada NIAA North Region XC Champion.

The 3200m was second to the last event for the day with only the girls 4x400 relay remaining.
